High-quality luminaires and lighting systems – manufactured in Germany, specifically in North Rhine-Westphalia: since 1979, ELEKTRA GmbH, based in Enger, has been synonymous with intelligent and sustainable lighting. Thanks to its high level of expertise in development and manufacturing, the company not only regularly sets new standards for the market but also offers bespoke solutions as an OEM partner. Customers worldwide in the kitchen, furniture and shopfitting sectors, as well as in industry, benefit from these innovative products.

Sophisticated technologies, high quality, minimalist design and safety are the hallmarks of the ELEKTRA GmbH range. Linear and spotlights – all LED-based – as well as power-carrying profiles, control gear and plug-in systems are manufactured at state-of-the-art facilities in China and in Enger, North Rhine-Westphalia. The growing portfolio also includes so-called Smart Light products: intelligent systems for lighting and functionality. In this regard, the specialists are setting trends when it comes to luminous flux, service life, colour rendering index and the control of light colour.

Our customers include kitchen and furniture manufacturers, shopfitters and industrial companies from over 30 countries. In addition to in-depth consultancy, ELEKTRA offers a reliable service. The team also places great emphasis on optimising processes for the customer – ensuring that the effort required for assembly and subsequent dismantling is kept to a minimum. ELEKTRA also excels in the area of sustainability, thanks to efficient manufacturing processes and reduced material usage.

Finding solutions together

ELEKTRA’s development department demonstrates a particularly high level of expertise in OEM projects when it comes to providing bespoke and flexible solutions for manufacturers. The company sees itself as a sparring partner in this regard: the right lighting solution is developed as a team, and the customer is closely supported every step of the way – from the initial idea and design through to tooling, prototyping and, finally, the delivery of the finished product.

One example of a successful OEM partnership is the collaboration with Sauder Closets. In this partnership, ELEKTRA supplies sophisticated lighting systems.

From Enger to Wilmington

The history of ELEKTRA began in 1979; today, the company operates worldwide as part of the EHLEBRACHT Group. Within just one year, the small team had already begun OEM manufacturing, producing for well-known clients and thereby laying the foundations for a promising business model. Numerous outstanding developments followed: a round, compact fluorescent lamp with a replaceable bulb, innovative light floors, and high-output chip-on-board and radial LEDs won over the market.

The company now employs 1,200 people across two branches: in Enger, around 100 colleagues are responsible for development, production and quality control. The wholly-owned subsidiary in China, ELEKTRA Industrial China Co., Ltd., has more than 1,100 employees across three sites. In addition to plastics manufacturing, the teams there develop tools and produce them using modern CNC-controlled metalworking centres. They also assemble plastic and electrical components into market-ready products. In 2024, a new office opened in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA. From there, the high demand from furniture manufacturers and shopfitters for intelligent and sustainable lighting solutions is met. Rapid delivery is guaranteed via an external warehouse, whilst retail partners ensure a reliable service.

A look into the future

“We are well on track, with regular new product developments, a stable market in Germany, a successful branch in China and strong partners in the American market,” says Boris Niessing, who, together with Matthias Delius, forms the ELEKTRA management team. “But of course we want to grow, drive internationalisation forward and become even better known as an innovative, reliable supplier of high-quality luminaires and lighting systems.”
