ELEKTRA has won the prestigious Red Dot Award for a solution that illuminates niches in a simple and elegant manner. The LD8177 LED system was recognised in the Product Design category – having impressed the jury with its exceptionally high design quality.
Lighting up niches as simply as possible whilst still achieving a high-quality visual finish is a challenge. ELEKTRA, the LED specialist based in Enger, North Rhine-Westphalia, has developed a solution for this, the design of which was recognised with an award by the Red Dot Award jury. The delicate and minimalist LD 8177 LED system is a functional, high-intensity highlight for entire feature walls in kitchens and living areas.
ELEKTRA Managing Director Boris Niessing emphasises: “The prestigious Red Dot Award is a great honour. We feel vindicated that we are on the right track with our design-oriented lighting solutions.”
What makes the LD 8177 special is that customers can easily add to the LED system with extra elements such as shelves or brackets. Various versions allow for an atmospheric ambience that emits light upwards, downwards or towards the rear – thereby uniting the recess and the furniture into a single unit. “A strip of small, closely spaced LEDs provides homogeneous, indirect and glare-free lighting,” explains Henrik Bültmann, Head of Development and Design at ELEKTRA. “The design concept of the LD 8177 incorporates the 16-cm grid, allowing it to blend visually into all standard furniture grids.” The new system is also ideal for use in other rooms – for example, for lighting in hotel rooms or on the headboard wall in a bedroom.

Information about the award
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions. Since 1955, it has recognised products that stand out for their exceptional design quality. The independent Red Dot jury evaluates all entries based on four fundamental principles of good design: the quality of function, the quality of seduction, the quality of use and the quality of responsibility. In 2025, the jury consisted of 43 experts from 21 countries – including designers, professors, journalists and consultants from various disciplines. The entries came from over 60 countries and were carefully examined and discussed by the jury.
